Our Old Scholars at the National Championships

08 May 2023

Following on from what was a successful Nationals Campaign for the SPSC Boat Club, the strong performances from our Old Scholars must also be recognised and celebrated.

It was outstanding to see that HALF of the SA-based male club athletes at the National Championships were St Peter's College Old Scholars (10/20).

The following athletes competed at the National Championships in Perth:

Jeremy Beale (FLL 2021)

Fraser Balnaves (MAC 2022)

Nick Burr (FLL 2021)

Edward Chipperfield (HWK 2022)

Max Henry (MAC 2022)

Aidan Hughes (FLL 2021)

Oscar McGuinness (WDK 2017)

Kyle Miller (MAC 2022)

Charlie Moore (FLL 2021)

Hugo Wurm (DAC 2022)

Some notable achievements include a Gold medal for Oscar McGuinness (ARC) in the Open Lightweight Men's Single Scull and Silver in the Open Men's Double Scull and a Bronze in the Open Lightweight Men's Coxed Eight. Jeremy Beale (AUBC) won Gold in the Under 21 Men's Single Scull, Gold in the Under 21 Men's Double Scull and Silver in the Under 23 Men's Quadruple Scull.

Our lightweight athletes performed very strongly on the National stage! Kyle Miller (AUBC), Hugo Wurm (AUBC) and Charlie Moore (AUBC) won Gold in the Open Lightweight Men's Coxless Four, in one of the best races of the regatta. The crew was also coached by old scholar and past SPSC coach Sam Morton (AUBC Men's Coach).

Charlie Moore also won a Bronze medal in the Open Lightweight Men's Coxless Pair.

In the Interstate Regatta, Kyle Miller, Oscar McGuinness and Charlie Moore won Bronze in the Interstate Lightweight Men's Coxless Four (Penrith Cup), coached by Sam Morton. SPSC was also well represented in the Men's Youth Eight, with Edward Chipperfield (AUBC), Xavier, Nick Burr (AUBC), Jeremy Beale and Aidan Hughes (AUBC) competing for our state.

Edward, Oscar, Max, Fraser, Aidan and Hugo were also SPSC coaches this season.

The Blackmore Club would like to congratulate all SPSC Old Scholars who represented their respective clubs at the National Championships at Champion Lakes in WA. The Blackmore community is very proud of your efforts.
