Head of the Charles - Angus Dawson

29 October 2019

Angus Dawson (S&A’18) and the Cal men's rowing team proved that the team will take its usual position among the nation's elite programs in 2019-20 with an outstanding fifth-place showing in the Men's Championship Eights at the Head of the Charles Regatta.

The regatta attracts over 11,000 athletes each year and is conducted on the Charles River, which separates Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is the largest 2-day Regatta held in the world and attracts up to 300,000 spectators each year.

Cal's varsity eight finished the three-mile course in a time of 13:45.085, which is ranked second to only defending IRA national champion Yale among collegiate boats entered in the race.

The Head of the Charles was the Bears' first competition of the season, and their only varsity event of the fall.

Cal’s Head Coach, Scott Frandsen described

the race as a “really good performance for our first race”.

We congratulate Angus and his crew on this achievement and look forward to hearing more from his crew in the coming months.
